23rd May at 2.00pm:  Stephen Gard

Author and history writer Stephen Gard, of Blue Dawe Books, Thirlmere, gave an entertaining talk last year about his book, ‘Once Upon a Hume, the traveller’s companion volume 1’. Stephen has now published a second volume of this early Hume Highway history.

25th July at 2.00pm:  Garry Barnsley OAMIn Action, Once Missed, Now Found.

Garry is a well-known figure in the Southern Highlands, a seventh generation local. He has an abiding passion for military history, among many other interests. "Wars are the punctuation marks of history" says Garry. His talk will touch on several aspects of the periodic devastation caused by human conflict.

22nd August at 2.00pm: Dr Perry McIntyre 

Perry McIntyre has been involved in Irish history and genealogy since the late 1970s. She has professional qualifications in history. Her PhD on convict family reunion was published by Irish Academic Press in late 2010. She has served on the History Council of NSW and was the President in 2005 & 2006; was a councillor of the Society of Australian Genealogists for 20 years and has also served as a councillor on the Royal Australian Historical Society, the Australian Catholic Historical Society and has served on the Great Irish Famine Commemoration Committee for several years including 3 years as the Chair. She has published and spoken extensively on immigration, particularly 19th century Irish. She has lead or co-lead nine successful tours to Ireland between 1991 and 2007. She also worked for 6 years as the archivist at St John’s College at the University of Sydney.

26th September at 2.00pm:  Frank O'Rourke - Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his visit to the Southern Highlands in 1893

Frank O'Rourke has researched the visit of Archduke Franz Ferdinand to Australia in 1893, particularly in relation to his visit to the Badgery Brothers property at Arthursleigh. The assassination of Franz Ferdinand in 1914 was one of the sparks that fired World War I. It is a fascinating story - one not to be missed.
