Please note that meeting times have reverted to 7.30 for February to April and September to November. Daytime meetings are held in May, July and August at 2.00pm and the June luncheon at 12 noon.
2009 IMAGinE Awards
The Prisoners in Arcady exhibition at our museum, based on Dr John Simons' book, has been recognised with an award in the 2009 IMAGinE Awards, an initiative of Museums & Galleries NSW, Museums Australia (NSW & ACT) and Regional & Public Galleries NSW.
The exhibition won the award in the category Organisation Award for Exhibitions by a volunteer organisation.
General Monthly Meetings are held on the 4th Thursday of each month (except January) in the meeting room of the Archives and Research Centre at Mittagong. In December our general meeting is replaced by our Christmas function. Meeting times are:
February - April, September - November: 7.30pm
May, July and August: 2.00pm
June luncheon - 12 noon
Annual General Meeting is in November: 7.30pm
Guest speakers from a wide variety of disciplines including local and general history, genealogy and family history and topics of general interest are invited to address our meetings. Visitors are always most welcome.
December 2008 - A new publication, A PICTORIAL HISTORY SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS is now on sale in our online bookshop and at the Society's archives in Mittagong. Written by BDHS & FHS Archivist, Linda Emery, the book draws on our wonderful collection of photographs to illustrate the rich history of our district. The book covers every town and village in the Southern Highlands in both words and pictures, with over 200 images helping to tell the story. The soft cover edition is $24.95 and the hard cover version $34.95. A GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFT!
August 2008 - The much awaited new publication by members Carol Nolan and Carolyn Dougherty, Digging Up the Past, is ON SALE NOW! The book contains obituaries from Southern Highlands newspapers up to 1900 and is a must for family historians or anyone interested in our rich local history. Priced at $40 plus postage and packing, the 385 page book is packed full of interesting, sad, funny and surprising stories.
